Virginia's View Challenge #17

Hello! It's another exciting challenge over Virginia's View Challenge!
This month is a fun one. We are talking about "Embellishments"...yes, as in eye candy
Definition of embellishment
~ a decorative detail or feature added to something to make it more attractive.
~a detail, especially one that is not true, added to a statement or story to make it more interesting or entertaining.
~ the action of adding details or features.

Embellishments wanted: ribbons, buttons, trim, lace, sequins, gemstones, twines, pearls.... Decorate, decorate and decorate: we want to see embellishments as the STAR of your cards. You can use any types of embellishments on your project. Even better, Do-It-Yourself embellishments are strongly encouraged! Please get as creative as you possibly can. Do not be shy on using recycling materials, too. In fact, brownie points will be added if you can recycle your stash!

Due to summer vacation/blog break, there are a few things I am doing differently this month:
1. today's post is the only post for the entire month of August.
2. the Spotlight Feature (for Top 10 favorites and HM) will be posted in early September.
3. we have a few talented guest designers who are sharing their talent with us today. AND they are the acting judges for this month's challenge. Dr. John, Virginia (me) and Stephanie are taking a month off from judging. Your "destiny" is left in the good hands of our guest designers!

Please welcome the uber sweet and talented guest designers:

Kay Miller, Lindsay Amrhein, Jessica Frost-Ballas and Isha Gupta

Firstly, Kay Miller is helping to kick off this challenge.
Kay: Hello! I am thrilled to be guesting with Virginia’s View Challenge this month! This is one of my favorite challenges and one I love to play along with! Always so many fun ideas here and so much talent to take in!
Kay: So my card today is of course featuring embellishments! I used Doodlebug Designs Sprinkles for the centers of my flowers and the little enamel dots around the kraft frame are from Stampin’ Up. The fun layered flower is a cut file from Miss Kate’s Cuttables. I cut and layered lots of pieces on this one, but I love the dimension and the way it turned out! I used some Baker’s twine and wrapped it around the white stitched rectangle before adding the layered flower with foam tape. I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with in the way of embellishments!

Next, Lindsay made two versions-->masculine and feminine!
Lindsay: To create a clean and simple card, and still use embellishments, I always keep the overall design minimal, so that the item, or items, used are the star of the show. For these two cards, a simple ink background, and a stamped sentiment are all that is needed to showcase that fun embellishment!

Lindsay: On these cards, I chose my embellishment, and worked around it, placing it first on my card, and letting it shine. I hope that helps you, as you chose how to use up those fabulous gems you have hidden in a drawer!

Jess has made some serious eye candy for us to enjoy....
Jess: Good morning!  I am a huge fan of Virginia and her inspiring challenge blog and I am so honored to be guest designing for her this month!  When I heard that the challenge was Embellishments I knew immediately that I wanted to try a box card!
Jess: The box card had enough space to really allow me to experiment with many embellishments without being too overwhelming.  To create my colorful jellyfish, I cut out part of the stamp and added beaded tentacles on jewelry wire.  I also added "bubbles" by adhering pearls to plastic strips, added variations in texture with the use of twine and vellum, and added wink of stella glitter and glossy accents for a change in dimension!  I hope you like my card, for more details please visit my blog here.
Isha has prepared something beautiful for you.
Isha: Hi, it's Isha here. I am so excited to be part of über talented Virginia's challenge. Thank you, Virginia, for the honor. This time the challenge is to use Embellishments on your cards...now, there are so many kinds of embellishments to choose from but I wanted to challenge myself. I had these beautiful flowers ephemera pack from Michaels. I like some of the flower colors but not others, so I made a cluster and used the colors I like and used only the leaves of the flowers I didn't like.

To create an artistic look, I created a mat layer out of watercolor paper, stamped and embossed the word happy, and then did a watercolor wash to give some color. I cut a vellum frame and then placed my flower cluster. To balance the design, I used some scrap patterned paper stripes with the sentiment banner and this cute tiny butterfly. To finish, I used a tiny bit of yellow twine and some sequins!

Lastly, it's my turn....
Virginia's take on this challenge: Embellishments are little things. They can be really small, but they can have a huge impact. For my project, I used some random circles (leftover from the word die Smile). I grouped a few of them, added the stamped sun and clouds, and used colorful sequins to emphasize the rainbow colors.
you make me smile (V V #17)

This monthly card-making challenge blog will run till the 18th (11:55pm Eastern Time) and there will be a SPOTLIGHT feature of Top 10 Favorites on the 25th in early September (TBA). Any style and all levels are most welcome! You can read more about the challenge guidelines at the bottom of the page. Among the Top 10 Fav, there will be a random draw for a lucky (and talented) winner who will then receive the top prize. In order to qualify for the top prize, your project has to be NEW (not linked back to a previously made project). You are welcome to combine other challenges, but please limit your total number of challenges to no more than 4.
